OXYMORONS IN FICTION

Abstract

Oxymorons have attracted attention due to their frequency of use both in linguistics and in fiction, and have been widely studied by linguists. The main goal of our research is to approach the concept of oxymoron from the framework of world languages and to study it based on selected examples from world literary examples, which is the relevance of the work.The main goal is to determine the place of oxymorons in the colloquial style, the reason for using oxymorons in artistic and literary examples, and the artistic feature.The study was studied through examples from the work of I. Shikhli, a prominent representative of Azerbaijani literature, and the works of world and Russian literary representatives, and a general picture of oxymorons was created. We can mention the examples from Romeo and Juliet by S. Pushkin, A. A. Fet, Charles Dickens, N. A. Nekrasov, William Shakespeare: many oxymorons such as "loving hatred" and "heavy lightness" are found in this famous play. The use of oxymorons such as "War is peace" and "Freedom is slavery" to express the hypocrisy of the totalitarian regime in "1984" written by George Orwell in the novel "Orwell's Dystopian" was analyzed using examples of oxymorons. In addition, it should be noted that oxymorons express several meanings according to the place of development, and the analysis of oxymorons according to the place of development was summarized during the research. It has been found to be used to create emotional impact, emphasize meaning, support creativity, attract attention, and create irony and humor.
